“He in whom desirable things make no home,”
said the venerable Todeyya,
“he in whom craving is not found,
he who has gone beyond doubt,
of what kind is his freedom?”
“He in whom desirable things make no home, Todeyya,”
said the Auspicious One,
“he in whom craving is not found,
he who has gone beyond doubt,
his freedom is with nothing more.”
“Is he wishless or wishing?
Is he with understanding or is he forming it?
Describe the sage, O Sakyan,
such that I could understand, all-seeing one.”
“Wishless, not wishing,
with understanding, not forming it;
understand the sage like this, Todeyya,
the one without anything, unstuck in sensual being.”
