Chinese Āgamas in English
The Āgamas are the discourse collections preserved in Chinese translation in the Taishō canon — parallels of the Pali Nikāyas transmitted by other early Buddhist schools.
While the Pali Canon preserves the discourses of one early Buddhist school, other schools carried their own versions of the same material from India into Central Asia and China, where they were translated into Chinese around the 4th and 5th centuries CE. Comparing a sutta with its Āgama parallel is one of the few ways to see which parts of a teaching predate the split into schools.
