Tissametteyyamāṇavapucchā: Questions of the Pupil Tissametteyya - translated by Sāmaṇera Subodhivihāri and Sāmaṇera Khemavihāri

“Who here is content in the world?”
said the venerable Tissametteyya.
“Who is totally unmoved?
Who, having understood both ends,
is the thinker in the middle unstained?
Who do you call a great man?
Who here has gone beyond the seamstress?”

“He who leads the celibate life amidst desirable things, Metteyya,”
said the Auspicious One,
“without craving, always recollected;
the bhikkhu who, having fathomed, is extinguished —
he is totally unmoved.
He, having understood both ends,
is the thinker in the middle unstained.
Him I call a great man —
he here has gone beyond the seamstress.”
