Posālamāṇavapucchā: Questions of the Pupil Posāla - translated by Sāmaṇera Subodhivihāri and Sāmaṇera Khemavihāri

“He who reveals the past,”
said the venerable Posāla,
“unmoving, with doubt severed;
to him who has gone beyond all things,
in need I have come with a question.
For one for who perceives form as unmanifested,
who has left behind the body as a whole,
for one seeing ‘There is nothing,’
towards oneself and externally,
I ask for knowledge, Sakyan.
How is such a one to be guided?”

“The One Thus-Gone, fully understanding
all establishments of consciousness,
knows this one as remaining,
set on that, with that as a crutch.
Having known the origination of the state of nothingness:
‘Delight is a fetter,’
fully understanding it in this way,
from that he sees distinctly there.
This is the true knowledge of he,
the brahmin, who has lived the celibate life.”
